Quality assessment and assurance constitute an important part of software engineering. The issues of software quality management are widely researched and approached from multiple perspectives and viewpoints. The introduction of a new paradigm in software development – namely Model Driven Development (MDD) and its variations (e.g., MDA [Model Driven Architecture], MDE [Model Driven Engineering], MBD [Model Based Development], MIC [Model Integrated Computing]) – raises new challenges in software quality management, and as such should be given a special attention. In particular, the issues of early quality assessment, based on models at a high abstraction level, and building (or customizing the existing) prediction models for software quality based on model metrics are of central importance for the software engineering community.

The goal of this workshop is to gather researchers and practitioners interested in the emerging issues of quality in the context of MDD. The workshop is intended to provide a premier forum for discussions related to software quality and MDD. The discussions are to be organized into sessions devoted to a set of topics.

During the last year workshop at MoDELS 2006 there was a consensus that the issues of quality of models need to be researched from various perspectives – both industry practices and academic research. Industry perspective is intended to get a particular attention in this edition of the workshop.

The workshop is built upon the experience and discussions during the previous workshop on Quality in Modeling and a series of model consistency workshops held annually at the UML conferences, and at the ECMDA conference. The intention is to extend the scope of the previous activities and to contribute with possible post workshop joint research.

Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:

·        Assessment of quality

·         Quality of models (at different abstraction level),

·         modeling tools, and frameworks

·         Quality prediction based on model metrics

·         Adapting quality standards (ISO, IEC, IEEE, etc.) for model driven software development

·         Consistency of/between models as a measure of quality

·        Existing quality models and best practices

·         Applicability of proven SE approaches and techniques to MDD

·         Best practices and processes for quality management during development and evaluation

·         Meaningfulness of existing quality attributes (e.g. maintainability) in the context of MDD

·        Software process, impact of MDD on software quality

·         Quality management in MDD

·         Quality improvement aspects in MDD

·         Measuring quality

·        Testing for quality

·         Testing at early stages of development

·         Testing of models in MDD

·         Model execution and animation

·        Metrics

·         Quality metrics and indicators in MDD projects

·         Quality prediction models

·        Experience reports and empirical studies of quality in the context of MDD

·         Empirical methods in assessing quality

Duration and workshop format

The workshop will take the whole day and will be organized into two sessions before and two sessions after lunch. Two discussion sessions are planned as the workshop is primarily intended to be a forum for discussion on the issues related to the topics presented above.

Paper submissions and publication

Submit manuscript in PDF using Springer LNCS style

The submitted papers should be no more than 15 pages in length, short contributions are limited to 10 pages. Papers will undergo thorough a process of review by the program committee. The proceedings with be published as a technical report at Blekinge Institute of Technology with ISBN number.

The two best contributions will be published in a "Workshop and Symposia" proceedings by Springer in the LNCS series after the conference.

Papers should be submitted on-line through here.
